Kill Me Softly Review

Title: Kill Me Softly
Author: Sarah Cross
Source: Borrowed from my Library

Goodreads Summary:

Mirabelle's past is shrouded in secrecy, from her parents' tragic deaths to her guardians' half-truths about why she can't return to her birthplace, Beau Rivage. Desperate to see the town, Mira runs away a week before her sixteenth birthday—and discovers a world she never could have imagined.
In Beau Rivage, nothing is what it seems—the strangely pale girl with a morbid interest in apples, the obnoxious playboy who's a beast to everyone he meets, and the chivalrous guy who has a thing for damsels in distress. Here, fairy tales come to life, curses are awakened, and ancient stories are played out again and again.
But fairy tales aren't pretty things, and they don't always end in happily ever after. Mira has a role to play, a fairy tale destiny to embrace or resist. As she struggles to take control of her fate, Mira is drawn into the lives of two brothers with fairy tale curses of their own... brothers who share a dark secret. And she'll find that love, just like fairy tales, can have sharp edges and hidden thorns.

My Take:
It has taken me a week to read Kill Me Softly. Partially because I have been super busy, but also because it just didn't grab me like I hoped it would. I mean, c'mon! A book about fairy tales? That has me sold right there! So, it is kind of odd for me when the best part about the book is the end. Honestly, Chapter 18 until the end...best part of the book for me.

I felt no connection to any of the characters through the whole book except Blue and Freddie. Blue was honestly looking out for Mirabelle (Mira) and Freddie for reasons you'll find out when you read the book. ;)

I have such strong feelings for "insta-love" and those feelings kept stabbing at me through the book. However, the situation with Felix (even though the whole AGE THING! OMG! Mira is 15!!!) and his curse make sense and I HAVE to accept it. I kept telling myself that..."Get over it. Accept it. It's part of his curse. Mira has no choice. It's his curse. His curse...his curse...no choice..."

So, now that I've gotten my feeeeelings out of the way, you can read the synopsis and understand that this is a fairy tale, but it seemed as if our main character, Mira, doesn't figure it out until about halfway through the book. Names of businesses and jokes don't make it seem obvious enough? Argh!

I do wonder if there's going to be a second book to go along with Kill Me Softly. There was no resolution about her parents. Yes, we found out information, but there was no conclusion. And, there's the Felix situation still to be dealt with. Two tiny cliff hangers there, but I feel complete because of the ending. I love those kind. :)

My Rating:
Kill Me Softly bordered between "OK" and "Like" for me. I am glad I borrowed it instead of buying a copy. You may love it and want your own copy, but my suggestion is to borrow a copy first.
